800 W. Ferry Condominium

Overview

Our team executed a meticulous masonry restoration at the 10th-floor terrace of 800 W. Ferry, which involved removing a deteriorating limestone gargoyle and replacing it with a lightweight GFRC replica.

The project involved rebuilding 300 square feet of parapet walls, including the restoration of brick and limestone, as well as reinforcing the structural steel framework. One key challenge was determining the optimal connection point for the new gargoyle. To solve this, we welded a steel plate and tube connection to the existing structural steel, allowing the new gargoyle to slide seamlessly into place.

The installation of proper through-wall flashings at the parapet and patio base now mitigates water infiltration, an ongoing issue for the client. With structural reinforcements treated using a Cold Galvanizing Compound, this restoration enhances both durability and aesthetic appeal.
